As much as I love to travel, the only way I get to travel around is through work trips. I live away from family, so holidays are usually meant for going back home and spending time with them. But as a girl who has spent most of her childhood travelling, hiking, and later trekking, I find my chances everywhere. One of my favourite solutions is to extend my work trips by a day or two to explore the local attractions. It’s not a lot, but it works like a charm.
My last work trip took me to Udaipur, and as beautiful as the city is, I had been there before. So, this time, I decided to go beyond the usual and find something on the outskirts. I also got lucky as the work trip ended on Friday, which meant I had two full days before rejoining on Monday. Since most places in Rajasthan take more than two days to explore, I decided to google something simpler.
Planning With Thrillophilia
It was the positive reviews of Thrillophilia by my colleagues that had first drawn me to them. And over the years, they have become my one true partner in all these little extra trips I make after work. So obviously, this time I scrolled through their site to find the perfect add-on to my trip. And what I found got me all excited and happy!
I had never been to Kumbhalgarh before, and then I discovered there were trekking trails in the area! The experience would last two days and cover all the historical places near Kumbhalgarh. It felt like a dream as I had always wanted to explore the fort. So, without hesitation, I booked the experience because when else would I get such a perfect opportunity? And that’s all I had to do, as Thrillophilia took care of everything else like always.
Exploring The Past
As soon as the work trip ended on Friday, I booked a cab and headed straight to Kumbhalgarh. It was a short 2.5-hour drive and I could have easily done it on Saturday morning, but I was too excited to wait. As you’d notice with all Thrillophilia Rajasthan reviews, the team had my accommodation ready along with meals. With everything settled, I could finally sleep in peace after a tiring week.
As I woke up the next day, I first started with the Thandi Beri trek instead of visiting Kumbhalgarh. Why you ask? Because the trek was through a forest and was only for four hours, after which I could go to the fort. I met the rest of the group and the guide at the starting point near the fort. Even though it was our first time seeing each other, everyone was warm and friendly, which is great for any trek.
As we walked downhill and entered the plain forest reserved area, our guide told us to keep an eye out for wild animals. We did get lucky and spotted two wild boars and even an antelope, but leopards stayed out of sight. Our first stop was at Maudi Khet, from where Kumbhalgarh Fort looked stunning. We also saw wild fruits and plants while our guide told us about their uses in Ayurveda.
The best part was Thandi Beri itself, where we saw numerous crocodiles soaking up the sun around the lake. Once we headed back and everyone went their respective ways, I headed up to the fort, which looked as if it came straight out of a history book. Even after all these centuries, the fort has an unmatched aura. The rooms, the temples, the walls, everything had a deeper history. Honestly, no matter how much time you spend here, it’s never enough.
Sunday morning rolled in, and it was time for another exciting trek. The Ranakpur trail was different from Thadi Beri as it also had uphill sections, as well as plain and downhill ones. This was also a forest trail, so we spotted many Ayurvedic plants as well as two sloth bears. Our first checkpoint had caves of Lord Ganesha surrounded by water ponds. Mysterious and beautiful, they were the perfect addition to the fun trek.
Our guide narrated amazing stories of the past, and we sat to listen to him. It was overwhelming to sit at such a significant historical point. By the time we reached the Jain temples of Ranakpur, my excitement had transformed into something more deeply nostalgic. If you are visiting Kumbhalgarh, I highly recommend visiting Ranakpur for its quiet architectural beauty. It’s simply unmissable.
The trek wrapped up by afternoon, so I had ample time to go back to Udaipur for my evening flight. On the way, as I looked at all the pictures, I couldn’t help but feel grateful to Thrillophilia for making this fun experience possible. If you are planning a Rajasthan trip, this is one experience you must include in your itinerary!
