His father was Motilal Nehru who was a wealthy barrister. He was also the President of the Indian National Congress twice. Jawaharlal Nehru’s mother was Swarup Rani.
Jawaharlal Nehru was the eldest of three siblings. He had two younger sisters, the elder one was Vijayalakshmi, and the younger one was Krishna. His early schooling was done at home with the help of private tutors and Governesses. Jawaharlal Nehru was interested in science, and theosophy from early childhood. Annie Besant who was a family friend had a great influence on him, and it was she who introduced him to the Theosophical Society, at the age of 13. However, his heart was not in his profession.
