Review of Maharani – A Political Drama
The Maharani Web Series is a taut political drama and also deals with women’s empowerment in rural India. Though the story is fictional, it is inspired by true-life incidents in the state of Bihar in the 1990s. The series has been shot on location in Bhopal and Jammu.
Review of Maharani – The Plot of Maharani
Maharani is set in Bihar of the ’90s. It is a fictional take on real incidents that occurred in Bihar politics of that time. Lalu Prasad Yadav who was then the Chief Minister of Bihar had to resign in the face of an impending arrest on corruption charges. In a desperate bid to cling to power, he made his wife Rabri Devi, the Chief Minister in his place. She became the first woman Chief Minister of Bihar in 1997.
Maharani Web series is based on this true-life incident. In the web series, the Chief Minister of Bihar, who hails from a Dalit constituency, falls prey to an assassin’s bullet and is incapacitated. In a bid to hang on to power he sees to it that his wife, who is illiterate and cannot even sign is sworn in as the Chief Minister in his place. The expectation is that the wife would just be his proxy and he would actually wield the remote control.
But things do not go as planned. The new Chief Minister shows that she is of stronger mettle and has a mind of her own. She transforms from a cowering and docile rural housewife to a dynamic and no-nonsense Chief Minster. The story is of the inner machinations that are inherent in the politics of the country. The plot weaves its way through a maze of political drama and sub-plots towards its climax.

Review of Maharani – Our Thoughts
Maharani is an interesting story well told. It is gripping and holds the attention of the viewer till the last scene in the last episode. It is definitely worth a watch to get a glimpse of what happens behind closed doors in the political arenas of the country. You must watch Maharani for a power-packed performance by Huma Qureshi, backed by strong performances by the entire cast. However, do note that that foul language and some scenes of sex may not be suitable for children.
