There are good and bad films, and then there are inspiring films. Soorarai Pottru belongs to the last category. It is a Tamil movie which released on Amazon Prime during the fag end of 2020. It was also released simultaneously in Kannada and Malayalam with the same name, while the dubbed Telugu version was titled, “Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa”. The year 2020 saw a slew of web series on the OTT platform and also many big-ticket films taking the OTT route to reach the audiences in the absence of theatres.

Soorarai Pottru – The Plot
The plot of Soorarai Pottru is based partially on real-life incidents and is inspired by the life of G.R.Gopinath, who pioneered low-cost flying in India with the launch of Air Deccan. The film is a fictionalized account of the challenges he faced while introducing low-cost flying in India.
Nedumaaran is an airforce pilot who fails to reach the deathbed of his ailing father because he does not have enough money for a flight. This tragic event acts as a spur and he dreams of bringing air travel within reach of the common man. He joins with two of his friends to give wings to his dreams. Along the way he gets married to a girl who nurses a dream herself, her dream is to start and run her own bakery.
As in all path breaking endeavours, the dreams of Nedumaran too enconuter numerous challenges. The monopolistic airlines do not want an upstart to challenge them. They do everything in their power to ensure that the dreams of Nedumaran to give wings to the dreams of the common man bite the dust.
Does Nedumaran succeed in realizing his dream? How does he confront the challenges that start him in the face at every step? These are questions that are answered by the story of Soorarai Pottru.

Soorarai Pottru is an engrossing film with a plot that is relatable and at the same time inspiring. It is a story of triumph, a story of a man who succeeds against all odds, and who does not like a success story. The performance of Suriya as the protagonist Nedumaran takes the story to another level. He is ably supported by the other actors who have their characters clearly etched out. All in all Soorarai Pottru is a must-watch film, a film that is a cut above the rest.
