Teachers Day is celebrated on the 5th of September every year. The day is celebrated to honour teachers throughout India. September 5th is the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was the first Vice-President of India and also the second President of India. He was born on September 5, 1988, and was a great teacher, scholar and statesman.
Teachers Day has been celebrated in India on September 5th every year since 1962. Teachers Day is not a holiday but a special day both for teachers and students. On this day there is school but usually, there are no regular classes. Instead of classes, there are special programmes and speeches in honour of the teachers.
In many schools, senior students dress up as teachers and conduct the classes. There are special programmes like skits, dances, and songs which are prepared by students and then presented in front of the teachers. It is a day of great fun, learning, and bonding with teachers. This is a well known Sanskrit Shloka from Guru Gita which is believed to be part of the Skanda Purana, an ancient Indian text. In Indian culture, the Guru or teacher has always been held in high regard and revered. The Guru or teacher is placed on an equal pedestal as God, as teachers remove darkness through the light of knowledge.
Teachers Day in India is celebrated with great enthusiasm on the 5th of September every year. Teachers Day was first celebrated on the 5th of September, 1962, and since then it is being celebrated every year.
5th September is the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the first Vice-President of India and the second President of India. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on the 5th of September, 1988, and breathed his last on the 17th of April, 1975 at the age of 86.
